1. Architectural differences

The Performance of the store was one of the major issues with Magento 1. It has been significantly improved with Magento 2. The Magento team has added various new technologies and changed the stack incredibly. Apache, Nginx 1.7, Symfony and composer are a few examples.

  • The second version supports the latest version of PHP. It includes security improvements along with
    the speed of the store.
  • Minimised Javascript reduces unnecessary browsers operations.
  • The static content receives better browser caching.

2. Speed and performance

Conflicting extensions was a major problem with the first version. The extensions previously available try to rewrite the same functionality and create a conflict.

Magneto 2 uses plugins that allow code to overlap the core code instead of overriding it. Also, it has become much easier, as well as, economical to install and update new extensions. Magento 2 has introduced new technology such as; HTML5 & CSS3 and requires javascript to run the codes work smoothly and efficiently.

4. Dashboard

The admin panel of Magento 2 is its biggest advantage. The user-friendly and intuitive interface allows the admin to manage the store easily and navigate all the information easily. It is easy to track lifetime sales, last or average orders, top search terms, average terms, check bestsellers, shipping and quantity. It is the most effective way to analyse the current state of your business.

5. SEO and security

The rich snippets on the catalogue page of Magento 2 help to improve the search results in SERPs. There are hashing (SHA-256) algorithms that strengthen the password and prevent the store from dictionary type of attacks.

6. Pricing

The community editions of both the Magento versions are free. However, the Enterprise Editions of the two versions differ in their cost.

Magento 1 EE license cost: $18000 yearly.
Magento 2 EE license cost: $22000 yearly.

Why one should migrate from Magento 1 to 2?

Most importantly, the first version of Magento will stop receiving support from the community. There will be no innovation in it. There will be security voids and you will need to outsource the security set up by paying the extra cost.
